About Us

In 2017, Gramothhan started with a simple yet powerful vision — to ensure that every child in remote Odisha has access to quality education. Established in Sonepur district, Odisha, India, we have grown into a non-for-profit organisation working across 30+ villages with a strong network of 25+ local community volunteers and 7 full-time team members dedicated to transforming rural education through contextual, scalable, and community-led solutions.

While our primary focus is SDG 4, our work also contributes to interconnected goals such as SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By fostering collaboration and strengthening local capacities, we aim to create holistic development that uplifts every facet of rural life. We currently have partnerships with 5 organizations to strengthen and scale our impact.

Over the years, we have evolved into a community-driven movement that works closely with children, youth, teachers, and families to create vibrant learning ecosystems rooted in local realities and aspirations. Our work goes beyond academics. We focus on nurturing curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking by supporting teachers, engaging communities, and creating safe learning environments where children feel seen, heard, and valued.

Whether through foundational learning support, school transformation, youth leadership or digital literacy, our aim is to make education relevant, holistic, and accessible for all.

At Gramothhan, education is not limited to the classroom, it extends into homes, communities, and everyday life. Our approach brings together people, ideas, and local wisdom to build an education system that truly belongs to the community — Education that Connects Classrooms to Communities.
