Where We Work

Gramothhan works in some of the most underserved regions of western Odisha, primarily in Subarnapur (Sonepur) and Boudh districts. These districts face persistent challenges such as poverty, seasonal migration, caste-based exclusion, child marriage, child labour, and trafficking — all of which deeply affect children’s access to education and overall development.

In Sonepur district, where the literacy rate stands at just 74.42%, government schools in remote areas struggle with inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, and multi-grade teaching. These barriers often disrupt children’s learning and lead to high dropout rates, especially among Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and marginalised communities.

Our work also extends to Boudh district, where similar social and educational challenges limit children’s learning opportunities and contribute to long-term vulnerability.

Across both districts, Gramothhan partners directly with schools, communities, and local youth to strengthen foundational education, enhance community participation, and build inclusive learning environments. By rooting our interventions in local contexts and empowering communities to lead change, we strive to ensure that every child in Sonepur and Boudh has access to meaningful, quality education.
